Postby JJward7 » Tue Mar 03, 2015 6:17 pm

Good day all
I hope I posted this in the rite place. Anyway can someone please tell me what this is. I know it must have been made by a spider but for what reason?
I am in the Johannesburg area.
Thanks in advance

This is a rain spider nest. they collect leaves and spin the web around them and then lay their eggs inside that ball of leaves.
What a world....

Interesting. I always knew it was a spider's nest, but never guessed that would be a Rain Spider's nest.

Something new learnt, thanx!

Just about every time I have seen these there were a female sitting on the back of the nest or very close to it. Not sure how old this nest is but have a look, you might see her somewhere.

Thanks for all the replies. I had a look at the nest now after work at Mitton you are correct she is just chilling on the back of it will try take a pic so you can see her on the back but it will be a little hard as I am quite scared of spiders.
