Road cruising?

Postby Thehunter » Sat Jan 22, 2011 6:00 pm

Hi guys I have a question. Whats the best time to go road cruising for snakes? I was thinking to go cruising 12am tonight. Would that be a good time?

Road cruise from sun down, until the road temps get too cold. 12am will definitely be too late.

Agree with road temps but this could be long after 00:00.

Why wait until sun down ,I have had quite good luck late afternoon as the sun was setting.

Nvlooi, in the area you're in and the area's you are able to cruise you are right, but out here I have had very minimal luck after 10pm and caught pretty much nothing after 11pm. I have done the majority of my cruising in limpopo and North west. But Once again its all about road temps, if the temps are still sufficient at 3am then cruise the road.

I agree with TonyK, as the sun is setting is a really good time to get started.

Sunset and dusk good for puff adders - later for BHS and corals. The moons pretty full right now so maybe not too perfect.

BHS and corals and others like daaaaark!!

As Serpy has said it depends on where you are, the conditions, road temps etc. but even with all the right conditions you may turn up nothing. It's also the number of hours you put on the roads the more hours the more finds ;) . We did a 4-5 hour cruise last night and turned up only 2 live snakes.
