Hello guys and girls a friend of mine gave me a copied dvd of a documentary called the snake underworld where its is this guy can't remember he's name but he is going all over in america to people houses and talking to them about why do they keep venoms snakes it was a few times before on dstv but never had chance to watch it he also visits this guy that injects himself with one dose of black mamba venom and he survive it how does it work can a body get immune to the venom? ? Also what I find weird is that in america you need 1000 hours on a snake handling course before you can keep your own venoms snakes? Here in SA you just go to a one day handling. Course and then your qualified to work with hots? ? If anybody wants the dvd pm me I'm more then willing to make copies lol don't hope you people see it as piracy..

I have also seen it and still think they guy that injects himself is nuts! I know of the opposite effect where people were farming with bees (my grandfather for example) and got stung dozens of times and then one day got an alergic reaction to it! I think it is a good idea to have some experience first before keeping hots, but how do they monitor it I wonder?

Just watched it last night. The presenter is Henry Rollins (the musician) and the 1000 hours requirement is specific to the state of Florida and it is time spent working as an apprentice. Interesting show, and the Mamba venom dude is simply nuts. He would be front page on our Darwin award thread to be honest.

I also watched it! That guy's Carpet Pythons are insane. He has a new documentary, but this time its not just snakes its for all dangerous animals. I think it's called Animal Underworld, its showing on Friday at 7pm on NatGeo Wild.

The Mamba guy is quite interesting, they say he's been bitten quite a few times by a Mamba and still survived.

I'm glad everyone knows what I'm talking about.. And what do you guys think of the herp farm they have over there? ? I went checking out that guys website he gots allot of wc snake for sale.. And that guy doesn't only inject himself with mamba venom but with other cobra venom etc also that is really insane.. Hoss don't you think if you require 1000 hours training in Sa then a lot of other people that is underage in keeping hots won't get hots cause then its to much of issue to get hots

That guy who injects isn't the first to do it. Do yourselves a favor and research Bill Haast. He is the original snake man and brought his first King Cobra back with him in a tool box during the war. The reason however that he self envenomated was because there where no anti venoms available at that stage and a bite would have definitely been fatal. He lived to be 100 and was never sick except for snake bites. He owned the miami serpenterium and was one of the leading scientists in anti venom research. He is my all time hero. I'm not condoning self envenomating in any way here so please don't get me wrong.

There is the story of the man who got a lot of RInkhals bites and got immune but it is an old story and probably just an story.
