P.S. All counted... number of times fingers were welded together by superglue - 5, number of T-shirts ruined by silicon - 1, number of times having to comb (literally) a shag carpet to find dropped bones - too many...

P.P.S. the madness has not ended... I currently have a puff adder skeleton that is being attended to by dermestid beatles in a bag above my fridge...
It was acquired as a long dead, dried out biltong snake, and stored to be cleaned and assembled at a later date, the clever little dermestids found it all by themselves and invaded on mass, so Im ignoring them crawling around in my kombuis until they are quite done with it :)

That is just too cool. How long did the owl and rabbit take you to finish ?
Now the puff adder should be a challenge, can't wait to see it.

Hi there!
@gekosin: in a word... no... kids these days are a bit wrapped up in themselves, there is the odd one that notices but they are few and far between, I make these things for me to enjoy and appreciate, I just use them to try and teach my classes :)

@predator678: the rabbit and owl were about a week each, because I didn't have to wait for them to decompose, i got them just hours after their untimely demise, and boiled them to get at the bones... the owl was surprisingly easy to re-articulate after I rebuilt the broken bones... the bunny was tricky because of the teeny tiny bones!

Would you like to donate some beetles to clean up a few skulls for me? Meal worms do not clean it up as well as what they do.

Just drop in a road kill or two from time to time and then if you are coming this way or know someone coming this way just pop them in a escape proof box please.

Wow I would have thought the owl took a lot longer.

Hi BV! I rooted around in the snake bag and found only discarded larval skins and empty pupae... :( Oh and only one lost and confused adult beetle... I have provided it with a tasty morsel (dead sparrow) and am hoping that other adults haven't gone too far and will come back!
Ive also set up a 'trap' of sorts on my garden, I know we have dermestids in the area, as every dead bird or meat scraps I toss on the compost heap gets nibbled on by them... So I have put out some old meat in hope of attracting them...

will keep you posted...

@predator678: I did tackle the owl during a holiday so I had 7 solid days to dedicate to it and it alone :) I boiled the meat off the bones, and then cleaned them with a toothbrush, so that only took half a day, then I bleached and dried them and that was another day, then 5 days watching series on telly and building the bird on the floor...

Do you sell these? I would definitely pay for something as cool as this! They are incredible, you did a great job!
The kiss originated when the first male reptile licked the first female reptile, implying in a subtle, complimentary way that she was as succulent as the small reptile he had for dinner the night before.

You should try using roaches they do a good job at cleaning meat off bones.
