My Bigger Boys

Postby rolandslf » Wed Dec 14, 2011 7:58 am

I could not put this under any specific species, because I took some pics of my bigger boys yesterday in the georgeous Durban weather.
The big girl - Dumerills Boa, I left totally alone. I definitely do not want to cause her any undue stress.

The Burmese I got from Rian almost a month ago.

Daddy Dumerill to be, deep in the blue.

Roland, glad to see that "Hercules" is looking good! Seems to be putting on a bit of weight by you! ;) Enjoy him B! The Dumeril looks amazing! And the boa seems to have come a long way since that saga! Kudos to you!

Thanks to both FangFan and Mehelya;

I cannot even begin to describe the feeling when I look at Achilles and see the success I had with him.

Hercules is putting on weight slowly, but still has a bit of a way to go. Rian, he is now responding quite well to the hook, when you open the cage he is immediately all action, once you touch his head with the hook you can almost see the dissapointment that overtakes him.

 I can imagine his thoughts! "FOOD!", tap on head, "Bummer... Sigh..." At least he isn't looking like a deflated tire anymore! Also glad that Achiles doesn't have a tendon... Could have some problems there then! ;)

Keep us posted! Great work with the snakes, by the way!

Thanks CG, I will soon be letting all my smaller species go and only keeping the bigger breeds.
I will of course keep a few smaller specie projects on the go.

Rian, these bigger snakes have become my Achilles Heel, Financially speaking.

On Saturday, I had a nasty experience. I wanted to clean the bigger boys cages so I took Hercules the Burm out first. I noticed that he is just beginning to go into the blue and should have left him alone.

First off, he bit the Hook Stick, something he has never done before. Another warning to leave him alone.

I got him out but he was thrashing and whipping around like a demented thing, yet another warning.

Here is the nasty part, when he realised that I was not going to let him go, he Musked me. Copious amounts of goop flung at me with some force. I was wearing just shorts and slops. I think I would rather have taken a bite from him.

Here is a pic taken on Saturday after he calmed down somewhat.

From whati've heard about musking, I think I'd also rather take the tag... He's looking good Roland! Glad he landed in good hands! He's looking much better than when I first saw him up this side, and "rescued" him. Now, when you going to start producing little burms?
