Ball Python really active

Postby Zyzygy » Fri Jul 05, 2013 6:25 pm

My ball python's been really active lately (uncharacteristically so). I've seen him nudging his substrate, almost like he's burrowing, and I'll come back to see he's actually pushed his hide and plants around and often times he'll sit on his hotspot and keep looking outwards and move his head around. I'm not really concerned about his health, I'm just unsure about what he's doing. Is it possible he's looking for a female or needs a larger enclosure? Any advice welcome.

How big is the cage? How big is the python? Is there direct sunlight into the cage? Is there a hide in the cage?

The cage is a 60 by 40 cm tub, the python is 650-700 grams, approx. 0.7-0.85 m, has the appropriate heating requirements under his hide (cork bark) and the rest of the enclosure is cooler. He gets direct sunlight when I take him out (take him out into the garden etc.) which is about 1 to 2 times a day except obviously after he's been fed.

I feel like he may need a bigger enclosure :/

I doubt it is anything you ought to worry about. Just make sure his temps are ok and he'll be fine.
