Vibrations in my snakes belly?

Postby warbot » Mon Oct 26, 2009 8:20 am

Yesterday (25/10/2009 - Sunday) I took out my female Easter Tiger snake, the big one, and I felt this vibration coming from her belly, she didn't eat anything this weekend by the way. This is not the first time I felt this but I thought I am imagining things, anyway, but yesterday I felt it very clear! and the duration went on for a quite a while, about 15sec... long enough for my girlfriend to feel it as well.

I asked a few people I know, and they said they also felt this on some of their snakes, no real explanation, and some think that it might have a ticklish reaction to human touch.

...can someone please clear this up, and tell me what this actually is.

Thanks in advance

Is it not the snake vibrating it's tail/end section?
I haven't noticed this with this species but ive seen it in others.

nope, it is coming from inside the snake, when they are still inside your hands, you can't see it just feel it.
the tail think I'm use to, this is totally different! feels very weird!

How old is your snake?

No idea how old she is, I only got her the other day.

..maybe..

Has anyone else ever encountered this strange behavior, if I can call it that?

The snake is vibrating from the inside.....maybe muscle spasms?
Curious that you have seen this in other species. Perhaps it is the food from the area.

Telescopus don't do well on rodents, the guys who have kept them alive and had success with them have fed lizards.

I have felt vibrations on my texes rat snake, but it has been further down the body (just past mid-section towards the tail). This is, however, due to the fact that he is 'wagging' or vibrating his tail and also depends on how I am holding him.

yes from midbody, but the tail wasn't doing anything, even though I must say that she wasn't to pleased with me handling her, and I feel that this could be either 3 things
1. It is kind of a deterrent, a form of first defense like a king's defecation.
2. a spasm/cramp
3. a kind of internal infection due to parasites

if 3 how would I know for sure and what can I do to cure this.

I have never kept and killed (a joke to all the guys who have not had luck with them :D ) any of the Telescopus so I can not tell you exactly but if it could be that it is struggling to digest. I know people who keep them only feed them every second week on lizards/geckos.

Buck, i've kept semi's and beetzi, Semi's do just fine on rodents, beetzi don't. Nothing wrong with feeding semiannulatus on nestling rodents.
