A good night time find

Postby Aaxel » Sat Sep 03, 2011 8:05 pm

I was going for my daily evening herp, when I saw this little guy coming out from under a rock, a roughly 50 cm herald.
The lil guy was really chilled and never hissed or struck out.

My snake catching gloves and hook, just a precortion(spl??)
rather avoid a bite, no matter what the snake.

Aaxel if the hook and glove makes you feel better then use them. I would be rather worried using them on seriously venomous snakes though. Cobras and adders will penetrate those gloves with ease.
It is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Those who are afraid to ask are ashamed of learning.

@ bushviper, I know most dangerous snakes can penetrate them, I just wear them because my mum insists that i wear them, she gets very worried when I do myy night herping(understandably).

@ imperial exotix, no not keeping, releasing tonight. I only keep wild caught snakes if they're under a month old.

And here i thought shrek had caught this. Lol! Very interesting colour that herald has going on, unless its just the lighting. Keep at it with the gloves until you feel comfortable. No sense getting bitten if you dont need to.

Thanx all.

Generaly, if I'm catching a completly harmless snake I usualy take of the gloves and catch It bare handed, the gloves are a bit cumbersum and slow down my reflexes, along with not allowing me to grip well.
I did an exact measurement of the herald before releasing, 57 cm, the biggest one I cought yet!!
