Love my skaapies, especially since they eat so beautifully :)

Awesome man!

Skaapstekers are such underrated and under-appreciated snakes. Probably one of our prettier indigenous snakes.

Definately! I would like to breed them, get the hatchlings on to pinks and "distribute" them to other keepers. It is a difficult task though as I would want to be very sure of who gets the hatchlings. They are special little snakes and need the right care. I wouldn't want them to end up with an inexperienced keeper and end up not doing as well as they should or dying.

The skaapie must be one of my favorite local snakes.
Good luck with your breeding project.

Too true. I guess I just don't want them to end up being some kids pet like a corn or cal king. I'd rather they became part of an experienced keepers indigenous collection.

Nice looking Skaapies you got there. The spots are well defined on these specimens.

As far as I know the closer you get to the karoo the more blended and "striped" the rhombic pattern becomes.

Where do yours originate from? Many of the specimens I have found in the Highveld have more of a striped pattern compared with these spotted ones.

The ones I have found around Port Elizabeth are normally spotted like these, great colours.

Don't know their exact locality as they were on display at our park but I would assume cape locality :)

Pretty skappies. I don't really understand the"difficult task to distribute them" or experienced collector thing?? They are easy captives, great feeders and hardy snakes in general? Most difficult thing is obviously to get the necessary legal documentation depending on where one stays.

The adults are a breeze, no question about it. But hatchlings can be full of nonsense if you don't have a steady supply of geckos.
Hatchling skaapies are more challenging than say corns or bhs, especially for inexperienced keepers that tend to want a "pet" snake that they can hold and play with, just my opinion :)
