Leopard Tortoise

Hallo all,

I’m having a new house built in the Samrand area (Centurion), upon visiting the 99% done building site on Saturday I found that a batch of tortoises bred out close to my house or on my stand, and FEASTED on my wife’s garden.
I visited the site again this morning and saw that 3 of them died, it looks like some birds ate them out of their shells. I immediately instructed the builder to cover them with shade netting (only over the vegetable/”kruie” garden )
Luckily the rest was still very happy in the garden.
Now… I have read a post that was done in 2009 titled “Leopard Tortoise in Honeydew”.
If I pick them up it illegal right?
Do I just leave them there or do I phone the SPCA?

I would just leave them in the garden.
It is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

It will be the crows that are eating them
To herp or not to herp that is the question

Sorry for the quality, I grabbed them from facebook, I don’t have a data cable for my phone at work.
Will take some nice ones during the weekend.

Oh btw… the guy that put in the kombuis cupboards told me that when he got there he chased Indian myna’s from them. I think they are to be blamed for the dead ones.
They love parsley, sweet-peas, wet/dried out buffalo grass, jasmine flowers, rocket, timi, and coriander. They mainly feed on normal grass though especially the dried edges.
