weird looking tortoise???

I found the following tortoise that walked into my yard. here is a picture:

What kind of a tortoise is this and what is is habitats?

I released it back into the wild in a veld nearby my house.

What area are you in? It really does help when people ask "what is this?" if we know where it was found...

I'm no expert on chelonians, but I think that's a Parrot-beaked Tortoise, Homopus areolatus. Good on you for releasing it! ;) Most people would want to keep them.
