Please help

Postby Geko » Fri Feb 24, 2012 10:19 am

We live in the Aalwyndal area of Mossel Bay/Hartenbos on a small holding, which we try to keep as natural as possible.
We have the normal little tortises that roam around and seem to be able to get through fences etc., but just recently
a large tortise arrived at our gate and wondered in. She has been around now for a few weeks (I say she as it seems she is
now digging holes so I presume to lay eggs?) I am not sure if she is a tortise someone has just released into the wild but not
sure if she is a type found around here. Can you help and also how long do the eggs take to hatch? We would like to mark the
area so they are not distrubed. Thanks

There are typically a few tortoises around the area.
The eggs can take up to ten - eleven months to hatch.
if i were you i should fence off the little area where she has laid just to ensure no animals wild or domestic can dig them up.
Organized crime comes in more forms than one.
