exporting leopard tortoises

Postby Greg Pettit » Sat Dec 29, 2012 1:05 pm

I have eight medium to large female and 2 large male leopard tortoises as well as a pair of angulates. These tortoises have a legit paper-trail going back at least 25 years so there is nothing dodgy about them. If they lay eggs and I do not find them in time to destroy the eggs as the new regulations demand of me (can we please leave that aspect aside for the meamwhile?) - then they will hatch. Can I export them out of South Africa? Thanks and regards

Would it be legal to sell a clutch of eggs and ship to the US? There is a limited gene pool of SA leopards here, and we cannot import leopards, sulcatas, or hingebacks because of possible ticks.

Greg which province are you in? The different provinces have different "policies". Just apply to be registered as a breeder. I know quite a few people who export. You cannot export babies to the US though.
It is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Those who are afraid to ask are ashamed of learning.
