Terrapins in Gauteng

Postby gekosin » Fri Nov 08, 2013 8:17 am

Good Day,

My college has been looking for info on terrapins and I am really not clued up on them at all...

Seems he is planning to create a pond/ water system and wants to keep these in it...

Are there any legal species he will be able to get (exotic or indigenous)?

Any other info will be appreciated!

Thanks!

All terrapins are illegal in Gauteng so I don't think he will be able to keep them.

It is technically legal to keep indigenous terrapins if you can obtain a permit for them. That is the tricky part. It is not easy to find anyone who has legal terrapins.

Possibly one of the zoos could donate an excess animal?
It is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Those who are afraid to ask are ashamed of learning.
