Hello everyone
I have just been talking with one of the guides at the Phezulu reptile park regarding crocodilian care and maintenance in captivity. I have always loved crocodilians and am trying to gather as much info on their captive care as possible. I am not sure if what he said is correct so I wanted to check with all of you.
He said that a private reptile keeper can keep any exotic crocodilian ( even the endangered dwarf crocodile and gharial) without being under the name of a reptile park or have permits. I can understand the smaller species such as dwarf crocs and caimans being kept privately but he insisted that you can even keep saltwater crocs privately with no hassles.
With regard to their ponds and water quality he said that no filtration is needed and all you have to do is to add fresh water regularly. He then said that crocodilians are very easy to keep and never get sick as they are so hardy.
Do you think what he told me is truthful or just rubbish?
If you have any info on the care and upkeep of the Cuvier's dwarf caiman and American alligator please can you share it with me.
Thank you
