caiman catching the flu

Postby mania » Sun Jul 27, 2014 4:19 pm

Hi all

I bought a hatchling male spectacled caiman about 2 years ago. Well this past week I have had the flu and spent most day in bed sneezing my head off. I keep my little guy in my room and noticed he sneezed about 4 times in 15min. Now I just want to know could he have caught the flu from me? Also what can I treat him with if it carries on?

Cheers

Flu that affects humans will not transfer to a reptile like a Caiman. They can get respiratory infections but usually just an increase in temperature should sort it out. Increase his water temperature and his basking spot by about 3 of 4 degrees for 21 days and that should sort it out.
It is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Those who are afraid to ask are ashamed of learning.

Hi Wayne,

Can you please post a pic of your guy and enclosure? What are your water and basking temps at?
At two years old how big is he? They are such awesome little guys!

James
