Magic moment with the King in his jungle palace

Postby rubida » Sun Oct 17, 2010 2:01 pm

I recently had my first Indian herpetofauna experience and it was magic. I travelled to the state of Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka searching for reptiles in the wild. Here are some of the finds:

Image
Russell’s viper( Daboia russelii), Gujarat.

Image
Common sand boa (Gongylophis conicus), Gujarat.

Image
Spectacled cobra (Naja naja),Tamil Nadu.

Image
Malabar pit viper ( Trimeresurus malabaricus),Karnataka.

Image
Common vine snake (Ahaetulla nasuta),Karnataka.

Image
Ceylon cat snake ( Boiga ceylonensis),Karnataka.

Image
King cobra (Ophiophagus hannah),Karnataka.

Awesome photos mistkve been an amazing trip. Seeing that King in the wild must be a great feeling.
Nice photo of the russels viper you got up close with the natives "favourite" snake.

Most of us just dream of seeing half those snakes. The other half we did not even know about. Thanks for sharing.

Finally! Sorry that I only respond now. Our internet was down for the last week and is still very bad :smt013 .

Thanks for the compliments guy’s. Boogy the King was about three meters long. The Russel’s vipers are fast movers and have a quick and long strike distance.

JKA, my only word for this trip is... MAGIC. I found all the species on the big four list in the wild, all which I have only read and discuss during conversations between me and Tony till now.
