Namibian snake: please help me identify

Postby smuldal » Fri Nov 30, 2012 8:12 pm

Would someone be able to confirm the identification of this fine snake ('Tree snake 1 & 2' in my 'smuldal' member's gallery), seen at Popa Falls near Divundu, Namibia, on 20 November?
We were alerted to it by the alarm calls of a red-eyed bulbul, whose efforts at driving it off were daring, persistent, and completely ineffectual. My guesstimate of its total length is maybe 2.25 metres.
I took lots of photos. In hindsight I wonder if I should have been a little more wary of it(?)

Hi Sylfest,

I looked for your picture in the gallerie but couldn't find anything. Please open your picture in the gallerie copy the link and paste it between . (your paste your link instead of the "yourimage" obviously) or give us some details of the snake, color etc ...

Kind regards

Kenny.

That is Africa's most infamous snake - the Black Mamba.
Africas fastest moving snake, largest venomous snake, most feared and most dangerous snake in Africa.
The are very beautful and graceful at a safe distance. Excellent sighting. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, Serpent.
Quite an advertisement for our campground, I think!
