Corn Snake Feeding issues

Postby gnarhimself » Mon Mar 20, 2006 10:14 am

Cool,im just worried about losing her.
Im gonna try the tuna scenting (shot in the dark, but worth a try),if this works then great,if not, move onto INTROBOOST and the braining method...

I would give the braining method a try first, before tuna method. Salt tends to dehydrate and kill snakes, so I would defenitly not recommend this.

Are you sure you got the info from a reliable source? It sounds very dodgy to me.

I've been warned by various people to stay away from introboost stuff... Apparently it's not very good for reptiles.....

BB's idea sounds a lot better and should give good results.

I've been given another "tip" for snakes who won't eat. If BB's idea don't work try this:

Take a pink (not sure whether it should be pre-killed or not – suppose it doesn't make much difference) and place on a piece of paper. Fold the paper over double and give the pink a slight squash while rolling one side of the paper over the other. It turns the pink into a gory mess which you then "scrape" off the paper and put in with the snake. Apparently it works wonders and my informant reckons it works 90% of the time....

Let us know how it goes....

Hi Bushbaby

Im also a little sceptical about the tuna thing,so im thinking about giving it a miss, and go straight to braining..
The source was acually one of the international corn snake forums, many people said that this works for them, but i was also worried about the salt...

Im gonna rather give it a miss
:D

Hi Rat...
I will rather stay away from the tuna scenting...Yours and BB methods seem the most tried and tested methods,so im gonna stick to that,if BB method doesnt work then i will try the squashing pinky method...
Both seem a bit gory and messy, but obviously a dead pinky wouldnt care less.. :D

I agree..... UUUUUURRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!

But, apparently it works wonders.....
Haven't had to try it myself but might have to do so soon. I have one non-eater which is getting a little thin.....

Yeah tuna sounds a bit dodgy!!! I tried the braining method with my one and it didn't work. So far whats worked for me is the introboost and I took some of the bedding out of my pet mice's cage and wrapped the pinky in that for 10 minute so it really smelt nice and mousey and that got a nice quick response from the snake ;)

Tuna does sound a bit FISHY (hahahah)
Sticking to either BB's & Rat's suggestions for now,if that doesnt work, then we see what happens, but for now I'm holding thumbs for the braining solution,if not that then squased pinky solution....

One of these have to work...

Yeah Rat's suggestion sounds gory  but effective :D braining is pretty gory too though - I used a surgical scalpel and then squeezed it a bit and nearly :smt078 ... was gross

Introboost was developed for reptiles and works wonders as long as you do not overdose it. You should also not use it on dehydrated animals which I have seen happen far too often.

Glad to hear she ate. For the next 2 feedings do the same, but first just put a pre-killed pink in the container. If she takes it, great, if not, do the braining thing. Some snakes will take food easier than others, and some just need that extra bit of enticement.

Good luck with her, I'm sure she'll start eating more readily from here on in.
