 You're joking! Right? That's not very intelligent of him! Not only the cannibalism & stress factors but the enclosure specifications are completely different for both species!

I've never believed in housing snakes together. And judging from those photo's on that website that person really doesn't know what he's doing. Fish tank gravel?!?! :-?

Hey Gabi
I totally AGREE with you 150 %
Not only is this guy looking for trouble by housing two snakes together,he's also created a lovely breeding ground for parasites and other problems, which in turn could kill not only one....but both of his snakes (his snakes are awesome tho).

Nope not joking at all... and on top of that he wants to get a dumeril and keep it in the same enclosure...

In all fairness I'm guilty of the same at the moment 2 of my corn snakes are currently residing together but as soon as the guy I've commissioned to make me a new cage is finished (which hopefully is this week still) they will be seperated immediately...

I agree with all of your statements..its an accident waiting to happen in my opinion..Ive been to a pet shop in my area..where a boa is housed with a juvenile rat snake...2 completely different species..I just feel sorry for the animals...why do it?

Shame. Those poor snakes. Not only is the caging and substrate horrid, but they are overweight as well. Hopefully this person gives up the hobby quickly.

Now throw a dumerils boa into the mix!

Does this a****** not know that it is one of the few highly cannibalistic boas around? The youngsters are known for preying on other snakes.

I don't think keeping snakes together (or different herp combos from the same geographic region) is a bad thing. Provided the cage size to number of individuals in the cage is right, each species individual needs are met (ie. don't keep cannabalistic species together  ...duh!?!?) and that the species kept together cannot interbreed. A lot of highly respected zoological parks have community tanks that contain different species.

I keep 20 snakes (18 corns and 2 grey rats) in 11 cages – two to a cage except for two who are on their own. My problem is space restrictions. I have personally not had any problem with this and my snakes seem to be fine. The only time when things CAN get a little tricky is with feeding but over time I've learned how to control this and thus see no problem with keeping snakes together. The ones who live together are basically the same size.

I must admit though, reading some of the posts above is scary. It seems quite ridiculous to keep a large boa and a small corn together. At the same time, a person who does this should be educated rather than run down...
