How to tell if egg is hatching

How to tell if egg is hatching

Postby gekosin » Thu Jan 15, 2015 4:22 pm

Hi All,

So i have had 20~eggs in my incubator for the last 2 months or so and today while checking on them the one seems to have split open?

I have never reached this part of the process so am not quite sure how to tell if the egg is actually hatching (cant seem to get the pic of the egg off my phone)

I was under the impression that the eggs would dimple before they hatch in this case all the other eggs are still plump and healthy looking.

Any Advice?

It's probably started hatching then. The whole process can take two or three days.
What eggs are they ?
Keep an eye on them and keep us updated.

I have often seen right before eggs start collapsing, they develop "stretch marks" which look like cuts or splits.

Could this be what you are talking about or are the splits into the egg, ie. allowing fluid to escape?

Well, whatever it is, it sounds good. I recon you will have your first clutch soon ;)

Those are the snakes cutting the eggs, so they are busy hatching. Congrats!

I have had eggs that dimple a day or two before the babies start pipping (cutting the egg from the inside).
I have also had eggs that have never dimpled before pipping starts.

Congrats man.

In a few days if the other eggs have not started to show the same slits, you might want to cut them.

The baby snakes have started to Pip, it means that they are hatching

By tomorrow you should see a little one slithering around. If you watch closely and with abit of luck you'll see his head peaking out of the egg.

What I do is after the first baby is out, I make a slit in all the eggs, just to help the other babies, do not pull them out or fiddle with them, sometimes a baby will be out or half out of the eggs and he will still be attached to his yolk sac.

Sometimes baby snakes just cant open up the egg or they struggle to get out of the slit already made that's why I prefer to help them.

I lost a complete clutch of albino x anery bhs like this and recently again some of my cape corals, I know its one of those old age reptile debates, to slit or not to slit but thats just my opinion.

I have experienced before, from first pip to last one out of the egg a total of eight days, that was without me assisting in anyway at all.
So it can be a bit of a lengthy process.
Be patient.

Nice little Smartie box clutch you have there.

The Snows must have been quite a pleasant surprise. To be honest,a ll the morphs must have been a surprise because theoretically you should have had a clutch of 100% Normals all het for Anery.

Go ahead and cut open the last egg. The baby might still be alive inside unable to cut it's way out. Normally infertile eggs would have gone bad by now so I would be there's a baby (dead or alive?) inside the egg.
