To The Breeders!!!

Postby breebree172 » Wed Nov 09, 2011 6:01 pm

What size enclosure are you using for your adult's?
and would it be possible to keep 2 males in one enclosure and 2 females in one enclosure?
i am gonna get an individual enclosure for each snake but i was wondering if its possible to do this?
and then obviously put a male and a female together in an enclosure for breeding?
but more importantly, what size enclosure would be adequite for keeping RTB Adults?
thanks in advance guys!

Just using the term RTB is misleading. True Red tailed boas (B.c. constrictor) seem to need larger enclosures and require more constant heat and humidity.

What you have are Emperor boa constrictors (B. c. imperator). Some forms stay small (under 1.4 metres) and others can grow to over 3 metres in length. This depends on locality. Try to keep each snake in its own cage and if the snake is as long as the front of the cage and the height and width is half that much then that will be fine. Bigger is always better but make sure the heat, humidity and airflow is correct or else the snake will get sick.

Two males will not fight but for numerous reasons rather keep them singly in their own cages.

Thanks very much
Is there any way to tell where the boas come as to know how big they get?
I have searched the forum and the net but can't seem to find a proper answer?
Thanks

Hi

No, you can never really know how big they will get. Some stay small, and some can turn into monsters. I don't think there are many places you can buy a boa with it's true area discription.

If you are going to overfeed your boa ,expect it to grow alot bigger.I was shocked to see a boa from the same clutch as one of mine that is already over 2 meters because the owner is feeding it every 4-5 days.My one of the same age is only around around 1,2 meters because I only feed once every 7 days and skip a week every month end.

Tony that snake will not live long. It is common knowledge that boas are prone to fatty liver syndrome and die within a few years (usually before breeding) because they have been overfed. Every serious boa breeder knows this and they even speak of "slow matured boas" as if it is a beer or a wine.

Bushviper you are right of coarse its common knowledge but I still meet plenty of guys who just want their snakes to grow as fast as possible .I think it has something to do with wanting a big snake to show off with but also maybe because the guys are greedy and want to breed with the snakes as soon as possible.Sad but true.

Tony and that is actually counter productive. Why not just buy a big snake?
