My New Cage coming along with some pics of My Boa inside it.

Hi All,

Been a while, I managed to order some panes of perspex for the cage doors, built aluminum frames around them and fitted hinges, Not too happy about the frames as I didn't get long enough frames and thus have some gaps at the bottom, so will sort that out soon.

I have bolted logs into the corners of the cage and placed a big branch at the bottom of the cage going up to the top for the boa to get to the top and bottom.
Still have to create fake rocks and get a big water bowl, but so far its looking good and he seems to be very happy in there, He spends most of the time in the branches as I have a ceramic heat emitter so he can move up and down to regulate his body temp instead of just sitting on a heating pad in one spot 24/7...They are mostly arboreal snakes.

Anyway hope you all enjoy the photos, I will upload more as I go along, I managed to get hold of some real jungle vine yesterday when I went trad climbing, Will try put it in later today and see how it looks, Not too sure though.

This was just after I fitted logs and the perspex, I let him spend some time in the cage to see how he went about it.

Very cool cage :) Just wondering if it would hurt him if he fell off one of the logs, he might hit the ground quite hard. Otherwise nice cage :D

That's an awsome cage! Just out of interest, how much was the perspex?
Thanks

It's highly unlikely that he will fall, he has a way up and down and I am still in the process of fitting more levels of logs and branches and fake rocks.

Here is a pic of the log he uses to get up and down.

That is a stunning red tail. What substrate do you have in there?

@ Nic - The Perspex was R1300 for both Pieces which was very reasonable compared to other places, That was from Maizey, I would definitely recommend this over glass when building a setup of this scale, I originally tried glass 6mm thick which is pretty damn thick and bloody heavy and it just cracked as soon as I put in into the sliders. Swinging doors with Hinges worked out allot better for this, Also the perspex room temp is much warmer than glass so it holds the temps allot better.

@ Bushviper - I am currently using corncob, but I am not very happy with it, I am looking into something else, I am open to suggestions? Something that holds moisture, looks nice and does not get moldy like corncob! Corncob looks nice but its high maintenance.

Corncob is horrible stuff for a snake that likes humidity. Look at Aspen bedding or Eucalyptus mulch instead. Do you just have the one red tail? What sex is it?

Cool, dropping past a pet shop this afternoon sometime to pick up a bunch of stuff for the cage, will check if they have these substrates, I am pretty sure they do though.

I have another boa, also a very pretty boa but just a normal BCI, nothing special. This Boa in the pics is a male.

You need to pair this boa up with a proper Bcc female.
