It's no use going ok well that BHS is R500 and I like it so I'll take it.

I liked a certain Brown house snake once so much I paid R1500.00 for it.

My main argument is people must try to determin whether its a breeder trying to cover his costs or a petshop trying to make money. More often than not a petshop will over price an animal. While we're on the topic. Does anyone know any burmese breeders in KZN? And Retic breeders for that mater.

There are a number of Burmese Python breeders in KZN. I am one, Richard Boynton and John Chinn, Pure Venom and a number of private individuals as well.
As for Retics, I know only of Pure Venom.

Yes I see the obvious point of any business but I know of only one petshop that isint all about the money. And thats where my argument is.

I dont know if I agree with S4A's final statement. There is most definately a point where you can get pay way too much for a snake. The best thing to do is ask around. See what people would pay or have paid. It's no use going ok well that BHS is R500 and I like it so I'll take it.

I have also paid way more than R500 for some of my Brown House snakes. Once again it all depends how much you are prepared to pay. I know of an albino Aurora house snake that changed hands locally for R17 000-00.

reptile man you have to realise that there are people that are prepared to pay for what they want, what sounds like a ridiculous amount to you, another would gladly pay. and ive learnt the hard way that in some cases if you pay peanuts, you get monkeys

Sorry Reptile man... I think we are just revving you! But the point is: if you want it and that is the only one you can get, buy it before its too late. We have all been ripped off somewhere along the line, or if you haven't yet you probably will. I agree its good to look around but to miss out is often worse. I have seen many people spend 3 or 4 years trying to buy that adult Burmese or Corn snake or whatever, or to find one cheaper than that one advertised, when they could have grown and bred their own in that time.

Well i know of a friend who paid an insane amount for a hatchling house snake (L. capensis) nothing special from an extremely overpriced
petstore. Which he continued to buy animals from?

Does it make sense? But now he knows and actually learnt a lesson the hardway.
Like someone said above we all have done it or have had it happen to us at one time or another.
