Current Prices

Postby rolandslf » Thu Nov 03, 2011 11:43 am

Good Day All

I am looking at acquiring a Burmese. I need to know what fair pricing is for a "Normal approximately 3 meter male Burmese Python".
Please post answers so that I can make a fair unbiased offer, I am getting the snake anyway, but I do not want to do either myself or the seller in.

First of all do not just go and buy a 3m burmese unless you know the owner and the snake very well.

I have two and if you do not know the personality or temprament and randomness of the snake you

are going to get hurt real bad.

Buy him when his young, About 80cm so you can learn and make mistakes without hurting yourself too bad.

For a young one you can expect to pay about R900 - R1100.

A male that size should sell for between R1400 and R1800 if it is a normal. The condition of the snake and its behaviour is what can change the price. If it is well fed and really tame then it will get a better price than a hissy skinny animal. Go see the snake before you buy it.

Yip, it is the one advertised by Meheyla.
I am going to get it, its just that I have seen deals on this Forum in the past really go sour and cause bad vibes. So I need to make sure that fairness prevails.

@ cvanvollenstee - I consider myself to be a bit more than a beginner snake owner, I also have had a Burmese of close to 4 meters in the past and when I had her I was nowhere near as experienced as I am now. Thank You for your concerns anyway.

Please keep the prices coming, the more I get the better I can consider the end result.

BV - I agree most whole heartedly with your sentiments. Suffice it to say that the snake will be with me for almost 2 months before I make payment.
Dammed Decent of Meheyla I must say, he does not know me from a bar of soap, and yet he is prepared to do a deal like this with me.

Still I should note that their are a number of people on the Forum who know me, and some of the more prominent KZN guys even know where I stay.

Since the peaple Meyhela got it from did not take very good care of it it is not in the very best condition so i think R1400 is a good price.

Sega - Meyhela has explained everything to me. He has a video of himself handling the snake.
Besides, I specialise in the so called rescue snakes, there is nothing more satisfying than turning a so called sick snake into a thriving, healthy animal.

I am reminded especially of my RTB, who now eats jumbo rats at each mealtime.

Hi Roland from what I know, price is to your own discretion in other words what are you willing to pay may it be R 1000 or R 5000, and what he will agree on.
This is my opinion, your are all but a newbie to this trade so do what you think is fair.

Personally I wouldn't pay more than R 1500-R 1800, but I am not a big fan of big boids so again your choice :)

Cvanvollenstee, Roland has been working with snakes for a number of years and knowing him personally he is more than capable of taking care of a large Burm.

I just purchased an almost 3 meter Abino Burm recently and I didn't know the owner or the snake at all. I watched him take the snake out once and handle it, then I handled it, paid for it, and took it home. As tame as a Burm can be, they all have that crazy feeding response which you always have to be aware of and take precautions thereof.

Roland, I think between R1600-R2000 is a very fair price for this animal.
And God has Created every animal from water, of them are some creeping on their bellies, some walk on two legs, and some on four. God Creates what He wills, for sure God has Power over all things. (Noble Quran 24:45)

Good Morning All

Rishaad - Thanks for the vote of confidence. We will now have two big snakes for our shows in the new year, as well as two medium sized snakes with our RTB's.

cvanvollenstee - Can any of us truly say that we are Expert Keepers, having kept, bred, caught and rescued many snakes over the past 12 or so years, including some of our deadliest, I do however consider myself as a bit more than a beginner.

Mehelya got this snake by means of almost being a Rescue Animal. He has got the condition up, with the snake also having just gone into the blue, which to me is an indication of an upward turn in health and condition. He has, now that he is satisfied that the snake is well on the way to being recovered from its previous poor condition, decided to rehome it as it does not fit into any plans of his. Lucky Me.

By the way, I offered R1800 for the snake which he has accepted, thanks Rian.

I also thank all who commented as this helped me make a decision, price was never the issue here, fairness however was.
