Burmese python humidity problems

Postby AM-Rock python » Fri Jul 05, 2013 10:21 am

Hi
I have my female burmese python in a 1.8 m long cage , the ambiet temperature is 29-31 degrees celcius but my humidity is always at 50 % . I spray the cage daily with luke warm water , but only get 55% max . Ive even tried decreasing the amount of ventelation but no use . I put a small water dish over basking are where temperatures are 35 degrees C directly over both heat sources .
So even with spraying cage with warm water , closing up vents , put water bowl over basking area , i still get 50% humidity , 60% if im lucky :smt017
Care sheets stated that burms need a 70-80% humidity level , but 50-60% is acceptable for short periods of time . What can i do to get my humidity up to 70% ??

Might be worth checking with another gauge as well in case its giving you a false reading for the humidity. Sounds like you are doing enough to raise the humidity levels. You can also look at changing the bedding to palm peat or similar as it retains moisture better. If you do go with something like palm peat, once you’ve soaked it… just make sure to microware then cool it to kill anything in it before putting it in the cage.

Natural substrate is cheap enough to replace regularly.
