Snake ID

Postby Wazted » Mon Mar 25, 2013 12:15 am

Hey guys

Friends of my girlfriend caught this in their yard (Escombe, Durban) without knowing what it is and asked me to come fetch it, its still a very small snake and im sure it could be some sort of cobra but I could be totally wrong, it was spitting against the container they had it in and was hooding up, i took it into a nearby game reserve and let it go there.

That is a little Mozam spitter(Naja mossambica).

Spray like sprinklers and have a nasty cytotoxic bite,

Wear goggles are glasses when handling these, they spit without warning and only need to open their mouths slightly to spit.

Nice find.

And yes they are all on permit.
