Common Barking Gecko - Ptenopus g.garrulus - West of Port Nolloth - Copyright of David Maguire

Barking Geckos live in sandy habitats. The males call from their burrows from late afternoon in a chorus(tich, tich, tich) which sounds like marbles hitting one another..

One of my all-time favourites even though I've never seen it, despite it being such a common species.
Beautiful photographs too. Do they prefer coarse or fine grained sand ?

Thanks Everyone.

Ruan, they prefer sandy soils but I have found them on plains covered with alluvial gravel as pictured here. They burrow in the soft sandy soils though

You are right Westley. West is in the very cold atlantic ocean!

East of Port Nolloth.
