They are a protected species and listed under TOPS (Threatened or Protected Species).

You can always buy your kids a legal imported species, that has been captive bred.
They are very common, and it will be a fun thing to do with the kids to get the habitat setup etc.

I regularly find Cape Dwarf Chameleons with people around here, and i always try my best to have them put back in the wild.
