Any other users Keeping Southern Brown Egg Eaters?

What are others feeding routines and plans like with these snakes?
-Southern Brown-Dasypeltis inornata-

I currently have a hatchling from this year its aprox. 35-40cm.
he gets about 5-8 eggs in a two week period.
Im concerned its too much, but then again whilst in summer shouldnt they be feeding as much as possible?

As far as I understand they do need to eat as many as possible due to the nutritional content of the eggs as well as the amount of "food" the egg contains.
But I can't tell you what a captive one's feeding schedual should be. Hopefully someone will be able to give some more info.

If you have eggs feed him as many as he will eat, as often as you can. But be realistic don't try to over do it.

Which eggs do you give him?

I help feed the egg eaters at our varsity, both the Rhombic and brown.
We tube feed them, giving them 10% of their body weight in egg, every 2 weeks. Well, not too acurately, 1ml for every 10g of snake.
But I think one could easily double the dosage or do it once a week. They keep it at that so that the snakes are responsive to behavioral experiments.
But the snakes are doing well, they are groing steadily.

Eish!
i don't tube feed at all.

Don't think that kind of procedure is necessary...unless its an absolute tube feeding puts great amounts of stress on the snakes even any animal really.

My Southern Brown is also growing really quickly, i should record some kind of stats really, but what i found strange with these snakes you can almost SEE them growing haha.
I get allot of finch eggs so there for thats what he(sic) gets, in additional he is still a small snake as i said so i doubt he can manage anything larger.

IN additional from what i gather in the wild these snakes only possibly feed a few times a year?

I remember when I was a small kid, there used to come a guy around to get some pigeon eggs from us to feed his wild caught common egg eater.

The eggie fed only every other month but he used to give him 3 or more eggs at a time.

Egg eaters live for very long periods and specimens of over 20 years old are common. As long as they are eating eggs by themselves you can feed them as much as they will take. Give them a break of at least a week between feeds because realistically even if they live right near a colony of finches they will not go "hunting" more than once a week.
