Rhombic egg eater

Rhombic egg eater

Postby Durban Keeper » Thu Dec 04, 2008 12:23 pm

This guy shed last night & ate a quail egg this morning, so I'm very pleased with how he/she's doing. Took a couple pictures outside, I love to photograph my snakes. I still think this is an unusual looking egg eater. Does anyone keep those gorgeous red Namibian phase ones?

Eggs are doing well, can't wait to see what pops out in a few weeks.
I just love how Rhombic Egg Eaters have such different colours and patterns, each one you find will look different.

Have to agree with you there Eugene. I would love to see one of the striped phases aswell, I think they are referred to as the East African egg eater...
In my personal opinion, these as a whole are one of Southern Africa's coolest snakes...

Im amazed at how much this guy has grown and how nice he looks after he shed. Do you remember how worried you were when you got him from me and he wasnt eating. The 2 I got from you seem to be doing well. Put in quail eggs recently but unfortunately they refused to eat them even though these eggs were much smaller than what they have eaten before. Does anyone know of egg eaters having a colour preference to eggs like how some snakes have a colour preference for rodents. Heres pics of the 2 i got from you.

Very Cute!
I would love to own one of these, but I'm afraid the egg hunting would cause me to think twice.
Unless I can get a decent supplier in CT.

Thanks Rooikat, I must say, I'm very fond of that little snake, he has grown on me tremendously. I don't know what the snakes exact locality is but I'm almost 100% certain that he is not from KZN. Stunning pics Rishaad, Can't believe how they've grown! The little female is looking gorgeous as ever. That last photo absolutely rocks!

Might as well share these two picks aswell. This is the other member in my egg eating family...

I wouldn't exactly call quail eggs small! They had something larger??? What eggs have they eaten before then?
