On Saturday evening, I was once again fortunate to witness the amazing event of my Rhombic Egg Eater swallowing a quail egg without any difficulties. After giving the egg a few good squeezes, it regurgitate the egg which showed only a slight crack / indent into the egg shell at the top (from the spinal protrusions I guess). Shortly after this, she took another quail egg and crushed the egg and after swallowing the content, regurgitated the "normal looking" egg shell. I then left room and after quite some time returned to the room just to find that she had taken the regurgitated egg again and had now eaten it like she is suppose to and found the "normal looking" regurgitated egg shell in a corner in the cage.
I have never seen this before or heard of this type of behaviour (taking a regurgitated egg for a "second feeding") before (captivity or in the wild). Has anyone else maybe? Is this normal behaviour?
