ID in question

Postby snake kid » Wed Feb 15, 2012 9:43 am

Hi people

I recently bought some Egg eaters D. scabra, but of the male we are not so sure of that he is indeed scabra. Could someone please help sort this out.

That's the north-western Cape variety from Namaqualand/Bushmanland.

I think they are due to be called D. loveridgei.

Not worth breeding it to D. scabra, even though I doubt they would mate anyway.

It is probably WC too, as I've not heard of anyone breeding this locality.

Ok that's interesting thanks :D . They are quite pretty, I would love a female for this boy so we can start introducing CB babies into the trade.

Agree with Westly although not classified as yet D. loveridgei they have been long thought as differing to D.scabra.

Along with the caudalis and beetzi these are often smuggled into Durban (from the Northern Cape) and shipped off around the country.
How is this specimen doing and how long have you had it for?

I have had it since December 2011, it is eating well and is nice and fat. He is about 50cm and munching 3 quail eggs every 2-3 weeks.

Best locality of egg eater. Pity, the egg doesn't look good at all. Put in a lay box. Should be more on the way.

I did put the egg in a lay box and added the box to the cage, the egg does look funny yes but I am still hopping for that one and for more.

Hi there all! For those who dont know, I also have one of these, and she gave me three fertile eggs this season, but due to moisture they did not make it. She is gravid again though, and the only male i have is that of scabra... so we'll see how that goes. I have had her for 3 years and she eats like a piggy! Mr Ping still need to help me with scale clippings from her for Johan Marais :)
Don't count me out coz I may be a bit of a black sheep... rather count me in coz I may be the difference...

Okay my female eventually laid two eggs but both infertile, I still incubated them for a week and checked again and still no veins so no luck there. I would love a male so I can start a little project.
