eucalyptus mulch

eucalyptus mulch

Postby Blake » Thu Mar 14, 2013 9:19 am

Hi all, I've been looking at a number of Care on the internet now and just want to ask for some advice.

I plan to use eucalyptus mulch and coconut husk as a substrate for my Brazilian rainbow boas and my amazon tree boas. Would this be harmful to them in any way or would it be fine to use?

Thanks in advance for the help.
Regards.

I use it in all my enclosures and I havent had any problems so far. Just ensure that the cage is well ventilated. I also like to spray the bottom of my tubs before puttin the mulch in to prevent the dust from rising
If you cant beat them, join them. If you cant join them, shoot them.

I wash my mulch in a bucket, and then let it dry out a bit before I use it. This makes mulch 100% better substrate than it normally is, clean and pleasant smelling. I also use coconut husk as it is very absobent and keeps my vivs moist.

Out of the two I prefer the coconut husk, although its more expensive, it does not stick to the feeders as much as mulch.

Thanks for the feedback. Really appreciate it. I feed all my animals in seperate tanks from where I house them, except for the arboreal ones. Those I feed with tweezers so generally my feeders won't be in contact with the substrate.

I use E-mulch in my tanks and also wash it first... makes a huge difference.
I’m not sure how easy it is to get up here in JHB. The last place I got from don't supply it anymore.
Granted I have not looked for it since then, but I had a hard time finding it previously.
I’m down to about 2 bags so if any one knows where to get please let me know.

Thanks. Do you just wash it with hot water? Or what process do you use?
I bought some online yesterday on reptile city. The link is on SA reptiles home page. It's advertised as komodo mulch.
