New Build Idea

Postby gekosin » Fri Mar 08, 2013 12:45 pm

So I am busy planning my new rack and tank setup just want some advice on the sizes of the enclosures

568 x 468 x 600

1284 x 468 x 292

634 x 468 x 292 (2)

Below is what it will look like. Still not sure exactly what I will be putting in it but it would probably be things like corns, rainbow boas and in the taller tank some geckos. Thanks.

Looks good, are you planning on making it using just one sheet of melamine 2750x1830.
I take your going to put a hinged door for the tall tank and little tanks as sliding doors are not going
to give you much room to work in them, if you take the front centre piece(Red Circle) out you could put sliders in
so the glass slides across to the other tank giving you full access to each tank.
Its what I did for mine.

I actually had not yet though about the doors! Thanks for pointing it out... I will have to ho back and have a look at this and decide, if i do make hinged doors what are the best hinges to use??

Thanks for the feedback!

Will probably use atleast 2 pieces of Melamine, got a few projects to do.

For hinged doors you probaly should not use glass as you will need to build a frame for it and its heavy which
means you will have to reinforce the melamine with metal plates as for hinges T-types would work.
Or you could just use plexiglass(perspex) its light and you place hinges right onto it and no need to reinforce
I use perspex for my corner tanks its a piece 700x900 and only needs little T-types to keep it on, you can add locks
to it easily aswell.

Thanks! I currently have 2 pieces of perspex my only concern with this is that our snakes have previously escaped through I had 5 lock on the perspex and still it they escaped! Ill think about this and take another look!

Thanks again!

I know what you mean about escapes so I got 5mm perpsex, flexes alot less I used a lock in the centre and 2 latches top and bottom.
I ran into alot of problems during my build and just improvised.
Good luck in your designs just take your time to plan and it will turn out well.

Ended up being 3 sheets of wood, will be using some of it for a DVD rack, some to repair a draw and the rest for the build above, still need to design a rack but that is going to take time and plenty of patience i think...

I changed the dimensions a bit so will hopefully be able to use sliding doors for all the tanks
