"Boomslang pik man in ongewone voorval"

Postby EkSkynHeilig » Tue Feb 03, 2009 6:55 am

I don't know who of you got the Beeld this morning, but it had an article of a man who got tagged by a Boomslang.
With the article, there was a photo of a Green Mamba, with the subscript: "Die maklikste manier om 'n Boomslang uit te ken is aan se helder kleur".

http://www.news24.com/Beeld/Suid-Afrika/0,,3-975_2463095,00.html

If the press can't even get the names, photos and descriptions correct in an article, how could the public possibly know their snakes?

I read the article. It seems the guy who got bitten knew what it was. I can't remember what exactly it said under the pic, but yes, a photo of a Boomslang would've helped. lol

I have written to them and offered advice on more than one occassion. The one time they did contact me the story got a totally different spin on it.

Ornithologists step on snakes and herpers never see birds because we are always scanning the path ahead looking for snakes. I am glad they mentioned that it is rare for a boomslang to bite anyone.

Gee wiz... the guy who was bitten is one of my clients! He came to our offices to have some wildlife software loaded on his PDA. Funny... he had Johan Marais Snakes of Southern Africa loaded on for his trip!

Possibly that's why he could identify the snake.

Didn't know it was available in a digital format... Is it a pdf?

Fredsmith - its not pdf, its an interactive software we designed for Windows Mobile Pocket PC. It allows you to seach for snakes by category. It allows you to log all your sightings and it has a smart search to help identify snakes by habitat, scale type, head distiction and region.

If I'm not mistaken, this system has been around for about 1 or 2 years as I remember someone coming to the THA quite a while back with this.

Good to meet you.
Contacted PDA solutions a while back, am very keen on this application as it's a great way to have all your field guides in one palce and also limits damage to your precious books

Thats so cool!! Nice one Neurotoxic.
Pity it won't work on my Nokia (E65)... Are you planning a release for symbian software?
I would love a couple of those titles in my pocket...

Wicked stuff! I'll look forward to that.
Give us all a heads up once it's available, I'm sure there are many out there who share my sentiments.
Thanks Neurotoxic.
