WA Gaboon Birth.

WA Gaboon Birth.

Postby Bjorn » Wed Feb 04, 2009 11:12 am

I was out on monday when I get a call at 2am that my gaboon is giving birth. I was shocked as she has never shed with me in the past 9-10 months and if she did shed I would at least know she was close. I had to find may way home and was up till 12pm yesterday. She was giving birth to one at a time every 20 minutes and then every hour. I have seen her pushing after the last baby but nothing comming out but she was buldging at her tail base. She has just made another huge wet patch and moves around more than normal. It's been 33hrs now and the last baby was at 3pm yesterday.

I have never bred a viper/adder so I would like to know what could be happening. I am worried about her and I am going to give her a bath to clean off the mess. Hopefully we get a water birth. LOL

P.S. What an amazing thing to witness.

All in good time! Thanks everyone! 10 live, 1 stil, 2 undeveloped, 1 stil deformed and 3 slugs. Plus a surprise which I need pics of.

It still looks like she is having contractions? She looks like the ocean with waves rolling down here body.

Well we just gave her a bath and a massage. She is doing well but we think she has two slugs at the base of her tail but they are small. I will post pics but I have other things to tend to as it going to take some of my time. The SURPRISE is not really a good one. Was hoping for an albino like everyone does as BB says a two headed gaboon. I will do my best to get pics up soon but I would like some more help and ideas to what happend. The fact that she has never shed is so strange to me.

Anyone here who has bred them? I would like to know how it went for you.

Thanks!

Id like to know if they usually come out in the order u said -live , still , undeveloped?
I dont know the age of a sexually mature Gaboon but could ur viper be too young for breeding?
If I'm gonna be an old, lonely man, I'm gonna need a thing, you know, a hook, like that guy on the subway who eats his own face. So I figure I'll be Crazy Man with a Snake, y'know. Crazy Snake Man. And I'll get more snakes, call them my babies, kids won't walk past my place, they will run. "Run away from Crazy Snake Man, " they'll shout!”

So the surprise was a 2 headed baby?? Cool!! Unfortunately they tend not to live a long and happy life.

Sorry I meant or as BB says. I would have liked a two headed one.

@ it_bit_me , she is 3,5-4 years old, 1,3m and over 6kgs. It was her first time and I am just glad I didn't get all stills or slugs which I have seen many people have. Was hoping for 30-40 but just want my girl to be ok.

Here are the pics with mommy and still born with baby in the back ground.

Then a pic of the babies. Hopping to get better ones now now.

And the surprise?!

I will be keeping it to see how it does and if not well I will put it down. It gets around a lot. Has very nice patterns which I would say are perfect.
