Corn snake eggs not hatching

Corn snake eggs not hatching

Postby gary57 » Thu Mar 12, 2009 8:39 am

Hi

I have a clutch of eggs that dont want to hatch, they must like it in the eggs  . They were laid on 20 December, that makes them 82 days old. The eggs still look good but no snakes yet. Could it be possible that they wont hatch, surely if they werent going to then the eggs would go frot??

Cheers

Good Morning Gary

Don't give up yet. About 4 seasons back I had eggs which only pipped at day 86 and all the hatchlings were out at day 89.
I have eggs laid on 29 December and I am also impatiently waiting for them to hatch.
If your eggs are looking swollen and nice and white then they should still be alright.

Cheers

Cut one open, don't take the snake out though. Sometimes the snakes are too weak to cut out themselves

Hi

Just an update, they started hatching on Saturday (day 84). There are a few eggs that still look good but havent hatched yet... and a few eggs that look full and firm and white but the egg is getting slightly bumpy, not sure why??

Is cutting the eggs open not a bad thing??

Cheers

Hello Gary

When you say that the eggs are looking bumpy it could be indentation which occurs naturally at this late stage as the hatchlings absorb the remainder of the yoke.
Please post Pics of the babies.

I will post pics of the babies a bit later today. The parents are Miami phase het aztec and reverse okeetee x candycane. The babies all look like normals at this stage as they should just some have yellow around the necks and some dont, not sure why.

When you say that the eggs are looking bumpy it could be indentation which occurs naturally at this late stage as the hatchlings absorb the remainder of the yoke.

The eggs are getting small bumps on them, not indentations, the eggs now look lumpy if I can put it that way. I dont think they will hatch...

Fooble have you never cut open eggs? When I say cut open I dont mean take the bloody snake out, make a tiy incision to help the little guys out, don't open up the egg.

Relax, i am just saying if you don't know exactly what you are doing things can turn out for the worst,
patience is a virtue. Yes i have in a few extreme cases.
All i am saying rather wait it out and if need be get someone who knows what they are doing to do so.

The eggs that seem like they're getting bumps etc i think are good candidates for cutting open. leave the snake in, just cut a small slit and leave the egg.

Fooble if you do not want to cause bad vibes then dont make statements like you did. Leaving the snake inside the egg after the others have hatched is not going to do them any favours. They will die in any case if they cannot cut it so there is no risk involved. If he did not know what cutting the egg entails then he can ask.
It is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.
