Is anyone out there breeding tigersnakes? Found a pair on one of the sarca trips 'beetz'. Awesome snakes, and would really like to keep a pair.

I bought a pair from Pietermaritzberg snake park in 1999 for R75 each. Don't know if that's of any use to you?

So how much can we expect to pay for a pair of telescopus semiannulatus?

Yea the good old days . I saw someone was selling some auroras at R800 a pair the other day, 5 or 6 years ago i payed R75 each for some adult auroras and the bred like nothing... i could be rich now .
Anyways if that snake park still exists then try them, I had my white lipped tree vipers posted to me in Cape Town by them too, so it's worth a try.

pitty we havnt had more response to this thread.....Ive learned a lot of people dont breed these because the offspring are a b!tch to keep going thus not easy for making money , and if anyones breeding them .....they will go overseas before we see them as thats where they can make good money , ''sad but true'' .... real pitty as they are one of our finest snakes. I think they are beautifull.

Yea hatchlings are to small for pinks and are quite difficult to get them on to. They don't seem to do to well in a plain old tank either. My Telescopus did much better after moving them into a natural set up. My tank was natural sand and gravel, some native leaf litter deep enough to hide under, a decent log, a massive acacia (fever tree) branch, and a bonsai native acacia.

There are heaps of awsome native snakes that should definetly be kept and bred more.

I know of one guy in Amanzimtoti who had quite a few. I think he bred them, but not sure. They are not too easy to keep as they prefer lizards, but you might find one every once in a while eating mice, and those are the ones you should hang onto. lol

well I lucked out and had 1 successful hatch out of 5 eggs so far this year.

Thats unfortunate man , hope you have better luck next season what actually happened to the eggs ? infertile or summing ??

I once bred these snakes and when the eggs hatched my Turners gecko climbed in the container and ate up the babies. I suppose he was getting them back for the fact that they eat geckos too.

Thats a nasty thing to happen to you Bushviper!!! Many years ago, I once found a large gravid female near Ellisras which layed 11 eggs and the hatchlings all perished after a while and even refused geckos. I guess it was partly my inexperience and if I knew better I would've attemted to forcefeed them.

Incidently when I got home with this snake she had defecated inside the snake bag. Something shiny caught my eye and I found several remains of different beetles in her feces. Maybe she had eaten a lizard and these were undigested remains in the lizards' gut....but I will never know...maybe she had a taste for invertebrates.
