Have you ever seen this in spitters before,because this is a first for me ?

Its strange that these snakes are so common but hatchlings like this are not often seen. At least not by me.

I agree Rob...I always see loads of adults around but I've only once found 1or2 hatchlings...

I have hatched alot of snakes before but this is the first time that i've seen one "bite" itself in the egg ?Have you guy's seen it before ?Can it simply be because of a lack of oxygen and him trying to get out of the egg or what do you guy's think ?

To add 1c worth, Ive only ever seen adults for sale, and heard of very few that has been bred in captivity, or maybe they are considered so common that many dont post their hatchlings?

I think you have a point Loslappie...I think alot of keepers don't even try to breed with them as they are very common in S.A...?

I have had two Copperheads bite themselves and die before even being born. This is the first time I have seen it in an egg though.

And just for interest sake...Why would they do it ?

Eyelash from what Ive seen, they will bite anything that moves at that size. Ive seen it with many Naja Nivea as well, especially the juveniles, they are so aggressive they bite themselves at times.
