Ok thats something completely different to what i heard.

I understand that bradypodion and chamaeleo indigenous to RSA can be kept and are readily available and for sale.

This must have been a rather recent development i think.

Thanks for the update :)

In that case, if anyone wants a chameleon! You can call anytime hahahaha :D

Bradypodion are protected well at least in KZN as well as the Western Cape.

As many of the Bradypodion are threatened or near threatened you should pass that on to people whom you may deal with who keep indigenous species of chameleon. Best to keep in legal in your your hobby.

I personaly dont keep anything indigenous simply because i cant deal in it and the risk of parasites spreading to my exotics.

A lady today tried selling me a Bradypodion sp. for a "madagascan" chameleons....................... Sure

Recently a number of pet shops have been found to be selling Bradypodion chameleons. They don't seem to grasp the concept of indigenous meaning the country and not the province. Just because they bought them in KZN does not mean you can sell in on the West Rand.
It is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Those who are afraid to ask are ashamed of learning.

Ok bushviper i got a plan...

I typed up a article for Ultimate Exotics magazine on "proper" chameleon husbandry that will appear in July/August edition.

Im thinking of typing one up on chameleons - whats legal and whats not, what does it mean "exotic", what are Bradypodion etc.... I think this could be a good idea and set the record straight to an extent (or whoever reads it)

What do you think? Its worth a try?

That is a good idea.

I have actually met people who have been tricked into buying hatchling flap necks sold as vields and many Bradypodion and some Madagascan species.

I will email the editor today and see what he says about me typing a new article for the Ultimate Exotics.

People simply dont know the difference between Bradypodion, Chamaeleo dilepis/namaquensis and what is actully legal and exotic.

As BV said, The boundries for legalities in species are not only provincial but international.

The problem is that people want a "chameleon". This can be any species as long as its eyes move independantly and it shoots it's tongue!

I have convinced a lot of people to let go indigenous chameleons and buy exotics....... And i really dont sell veileds for much.

I aslo want to type up an article on metabolic bone disease (MBD) as people simlpy dont understand the necessity on UVB and calcium in combination, especially for veiled!!
