LOL so true. The only thing of not that got hold of me was not a reptile, but a standard issue juvenile octopus! Do not underestimate those buggers, their bite is somehat toxic, pretty much along the lines of a cytotoxic spider bite.

Haha funny rob but it looks like we all have problems with the adders.
Some worse then other people.
In all the cases who is to blame only our self not the reptiles.
They do what comes naturally.

Ive never gotten close enough to the sharp end of a seriously venomous snake to get tagged (yet) *throws salt over shoulder, knocks on wood, crosses fingers and toes* but I did get bit by a short snouted whip snake... I was called to a house east of PTA and they had him 'cornered' in a 90 corner of the houses wall, as I approached the little devil took off between my legs making his bid for freedom, my reflex was to quickly bend, grab his tail and pull him back... I had only enough time to think *...damn that was stupid...* before I was looking at a ship snake latched onto my thumb, chewing vigorously...

all that happened was a bit of tingling in my thumb and the middle and ring finger, that only lasted about 10 min.

Even though I've had snakes for about 7 years. I'm not close or think I will ever be to keep anything venomous.

There are only 2 groups of people who work with venomous snakes... Those that have been bitten, and those that are going to get bitten! And just because you have been bitten already does not preclude you from being bitten again.

I was bitten by a 40cm Copperhead on my left index finger in Sept 2001. The pain was unbelievable! Women who had given birth to 5-kilogram babies had not experienced such pain, normal men would have died. My finger bled profusely from the instant the fangs penetrated and did not stop bleeding for 3 weeks, although it did bleed less from the 5th day. Swelling extended right up my arm and into my shoulder by the first night. Blisters popped up on the 2nd day. Doctors were quite keen to lop the end of the finger off, but I resisted. My finger stayed swollen for three months and stiff for nearly a year. After nearly three months, the black tissue on the end of my finger (similar to Superciliaris's picture) fell of, leaving new, pink tissue underneath. The nail continues to grow, but the finger is permanently disfigured.
These snakes, as well as White-lipped Tree Vipers, Night Adders and Burrowing Adders are not to be taken lightly! Their bite can be extremely serious. They are often seen as good "starter hots" but the full implications of a bite are overlooked.

p.s THE ONLY REASON FOR HANDELING WAS TO PREPARE THEM FOR TRANSPORTATION...AND I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE !

I just thought this could maybe work, share some venomous snake bites stories? Lots of people post snake bite pics from google but how about some first hand experience?
Tell us what venomous snake bit you (being spit at as well), how was your symptoms (or maybe dry bites ), how you treated it, what happened, and if you maybe have some pics?

I think this can also be educational especially for the younger ones that consider keeping venomous snakes?

And I don't think it's necessary to share only venomous bites, maybe your 2m python got hold of you?

Or even your Corn snake shredded your finger (just joking)

I hope to get lots of stories!
