Is this possible

Postby cvanvollenstee » Tue Jul 20, 2010 1:30 pm

Hey I came apon this email and it sounds a bit far feched to me.

15 foot Oos Kaap khakibos puffadder. Largest ever caught on record. After seeing this, a little research followed, and learned the following :
One bite from a snake this large contains enough venom to kill over 40 full grown men. The head alone is larger than the hand of a normal sized man.
This snake was probably alive when Hendrik Verwoed was Prime minister.
A bite from those fangs would equal being penetrated by two 1/4 inch screwdrivers.
A snake this size could easily swallow a 2 year-old child.
A snake this size has an approximately 5 1/2 foot accurate striking distance. (The distance for an average size Puffadder is about 2 feet) Judging by the size of the snake, it is estimated to weigh over 70 kg.

That is a rattlesnake and the "facts" are a crock of rubbish.

Firstly, It's not a puff adder. It's one of the Rattlesnake species.

Secondly, you can judge the size by the potato peeler used to keep it's mouth open. The stick used to lift it looks like an average broomstick diameter.

I guess it's probably 1.5m long.

Ok that makes a lot of sence.

I must say eating a 2 year old child sounds a bit funny.

The sad part is how many uninformed people will believe this as gospel and go around killing snakes with out knowing this is infact a hoax email containing a pile of misinformation designed to scare and amaze all that see it..

This was posted on the site before if I'm not mistaken? It was also recognised as an Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake which is found in North America..... A place very very very far from SA.

 A friend of mine told me about an email she got today about a 5m puffie, must have been this one!? I told her it was a %^$ storie, but she actually got mad at me! Said it was true and that she has seen a puffie before and knows what they look like, blah blah blah. :smt011

It really is a pity that they killed her. Read some of the posts on the link you gave Drewbot, the ignorance of some people is just sad! If it was a 2m tall dog that could also swallow a two year old child and it was killed, the posts would have been VERY different!

@Groenslang, sadly I also had to battle and waste minutes of my life with someone arguing with me because they had received a 4.5m puff adder email... The most frustrating part is when you get the ''It's possible because think about, snakes don't stop growing'' my respone was ''oh ok, so when are you gonna get me a 5m corn snake? To which I got no answer.

I think you're forgetting about King Cobras. Largest recorded was around 18 foot! As well as Boas!
