Hi,

that scorp looks like Chiloctonus to me - can you describe where you found it? It definately isn't Opisthophthalmus :)

Doug it was found under a rock above 2000m asl. about 20km west of Nelspruit.

It appears I need an updated field guide.

The locality will be Mpumalanga due to the possibility of poaching taking place seeing as these animals are still in those exact positions. Sorry but there are people out there who will data mine and then go visiting which we would like to avoid. It is a locality known to the Transvaal museum from previous expeditions.

That is minute!!!

Stunning pics all around!!!

I remember the smallest adder I've ever seen was a DOR B. cuadalis and it was a bit longer than a 62mm lens cap.

Wiseass! Was fun though, it's amazing how finding an atropos can suddenly heal a person's twisted ankle :-P

It is even more amazing how the only injured (twisted ankle) herper finds 4 out of the 5 atropos!

Goose, your pics are great

Did you find the atropos on/under rocks or in grass tufts?

Most were found sitting in front of rocks basking. The male was cruising around.

Looks like a good trip you guys had. Wonder when my invitation went missing...cannot trust the postal service these days. Just kidding David...who found the ugly atropos?
By the way, why do you find sluggies when you're out with other guys, but don't show me any?
