Cape cobra vs brown house snake

Postby sega » Tue Nov 30, 2010 7:21 pm

Hi all at 6.30 i got a call out forom a person who told me there where two snakes fighting in the laywater sluit outside their house. so got there to find a very injured +-50cm brown house snake busy constricting a +-65cm cape cobra :smt017 .So i sepirate the two very pissed off snakes. the brown house snake has two nasty cobra bites and is very weak. The cobra is okay but i reckon if they where left together they whould have killed each other.

Sorry if this sounds purist but I would've left it. Natural process maybe?

I agree. No biggy, but if the bhs dies as a result of the bite maybe give it to the nivea to feed on so it gets the meal it was after

I would have left them if one was going to eat the other but the brown house snake had the cobra around the neck and the cobra couldent do any thing. the brow house snake would have constricted the cobra to death then would have died from the venom.

Hee hee. Thats rude. He cannot re-create the shot now.

Seriously the chances that the House snake is going to make it is slight. Cape cobras are known to feed on snakes.

I have seen a House snake that got a single bite from a Snouted cobra and I then pulled them apart. I took the House snake home and he had a necrotic area about the size of a R5 coin but survived and was released. I think if the Snouted had managed to chew longer the House snake would not have been so lucky.

Yup, certainly..... That wasnt a big BHS was it ?

Shame, I guess constricting is the only weapon Lamprophis have.... Unfair advantage to the Capie haha, but I guess thats the food cycle ;)...

The brown house snake measured exactly 62cm but was very thin.
