I thought I would post some pics of my new cages .I am using 12mm ply and am going to paint them with non drip enamel.Building your own cages is very easy and the advantage is that you can build them to suit your exact requirements.I am building a stack of 6 units but I build each cage seperately so that I can move them easily if I have to .Enjoy Cheers TonyK

The advantage of building individual cages is that the wood all fitted in my car.

Simple box ,just 6 sides to knock together.

Hmm the cost is something I must still work out .I use Plascon Velvaglow because its so easy to work with and gives a nice finish if you use a sponge roller.

I just leave a 5 mm gap all around the acrylic front door.I like the idea because now I can stack the cages next to each other as well as on top of each other with out blocking the ventilation holes.

Awesome Cause I have Been Thinking of painting my Budget 1200 cage. The unprotected wood makes me a bit nervous. Just wasnt sure if it be safe for the snake.

Tonyk, you can buy a set of drill bits that are specificly designed to cut large holes, then you simply buy the plastic ventilation guards that you use for cages.

I have used them before but like I said you then sit with the problem that you can`t pack another cage next to the vent.
The other option would be to put the vetilation guards in front but why would you want to ,they look ugly.
If you work out the surface area of my 5mm gaps you will find we end up with way more surface area than a couple of those plastic vents.

That ventilation does not sound adequate. I would rather increase the size of the "frame" you have in the front of the cage and put long vents in the top of the cage.
