Malaysians are at t again.

Malaysians are at t again.

Postby Bjorn » Fri Sep 10, 2010 1:31 pm

Well it's still early days but this gives me some hope. This is the second time I have seen them locked but this time there is no doubt about it. I fed the female yesterday a young rabbit but you can't even notice it.

Beautiful snakes i MUST say.

What are their temperaments like?

What kind of space do they need?

Thanks! They are not bad at all. Out of ten I imported only one was a bit of trouble but I still pick him up when he is hissing. He went from chilled to seriously agro and I didn't work with it then at all. Then all of a sudden it was manageable again. The male in picture has never given me trouble until I disturbed him shedding one night. I have helped him shed by peeling the skin from his lips. Many bloods are bad but most captive bred are really nice. I also hear that albino bloods are super docile.

I have them in 1400x600x600 and in breeding season I just take out the divider. The don't need much space as they very lazy snakes. They not a beginner snake by any means. If your worried you snake hasn't defecated in 2 weeks then a blood is not for you. They do it once every 3 months with heavy feeding. LOL

I think they are awesome snakes and will definitely get more when I am able. I just hope I can breed these out!

Oh really? I hear so many conflicting views about these...

They are certainly some of the better looking snakes out there!

What is your feeding regime like with your blood pythons? I hear they are eating machines!

I am still getting my experience with big pythons and boa's, especially the more "aggressive" species, don't believe I am ready for one of these yet!

They do get a bad rap. I guess it's a 50/50 situation.

I was feeding them fairly heavy when young at every 5 days but weekly is fine. I slowed them down after a year and now feed them every two weeks or so depending on the size of the meal. Some are eating piglets and young rabbits. I give them a good break when due a shed or getting backed up. I normally take them into the yard and give them some exercise so they have a bowel movement. LOL

I have been waiting for this moment for a while now! I am so stoked with this.

13 huge eggs (some are stuck underneath)

Last night I saw she was moving around a bit but not liking the nest box. She was laing coiled up with her tail on her head so I was thinking she is super close. So hard to tell with such a thick snake if she had eggs but all the signs where there. Shame she looks thin for a blood now. LOL

It's going to be about 65 days at 30-31 deg c. It is a bit later than most but bloods have been known to breed at any time of the year. I seem to breed some stuff out of season too.lol This is a first for me though.

It can always be a problem with snakes that the female is not ready when you introduce the male. Sometimes their timing is off and that why I left him with her for a long time. I put them together in early spring and they mated constantly for two months or so before she ovulated.

Now that is really nice. The eggs look good too. Holding thumbs they all go to full term.

Thanks guys! It's as they say don't count your chickens (snakes) before they hatch. The eggs just look too perfect so I am hopeful. The wait is going to be difficult!

Fantastic! Taking the eggs must have been interesting...

What is the "technique" used to remove egg's from a potentially angry mom that can hurt you properly?

haha You would think so but I just gently picked her up an moved her to the nest box she was supposed to use. A little hiss as usual. Out of the 5 I have only 1 might bite you as my mother found out 8 times in one sitting. shame!
