Saw this on gatvol.co.za

Police are still searching for about 40 reptiles that were stolen last weekend from a snake park in Edenvale.

Two suspects were arrested on Friday in connection with stealing 180 reptiles including six deadly Venezuelan rattlesnakes from the Hunyani Reptile Education Centre.

The centre’s owner Clive Reid has confirmed that 118 reptiles have been recovered, but 40 are still missing.

Reid said the motive may have been to sell them off.

“There are two suspects in this particular case. It appears from the information that has been gathered that they possibly wanted to open up a pet shop somewhere and use this as stock that they could sell,” he added.

I'm happy to hear they got most of the snakes back before they suffered too much.

Well that's good.
Hope they find the last lot, 40 snakes is still a large amount!

"More than 100 snakes have found at a house in Kempton park and have been returned to the snake park. A box with other snakes was handed over at the Edenvale police station. Christopher Beck and Ryan Mostert have appeared in court in connection with this. Of the 180 reptiles stolen only 118 have been returned. The vast majority of the snakes have been found at Gavin Macdonald's house. Initially Beck gave his son the snakes but than later said he wanted to open a snake park with them. His son then confirmed on sareptiles.co.za that the listed snakes were the same as those he had. He then phoned the Police and the owner Clive Reid."

Loosely translated from a report in today's Beeld.

hi all, ill post the list of recovered animals and items soon. The star newspaper has covered the story extensively over the last few days (page 3, page 1). the names of the suspects are supposed to be published today in the star. Also the edenvale/ bedfordview paper, and radio 702.

yes, one of the suspects is a member on this forum, as far as i know he has used more than one username - ill try find out which ones.
just glad we got most the animals back - although some are in a bad state as many larger snakes were bundled together in small tubs. and the pigmy rattler took a big hammering - either stress or possible mishandling.

thanks for all the PM's with leads, and concerns

That would be nice to know. I do believe our rules provide for him to be removed but I dont think that will serve any purpose.
