Yellow anaconda still in water.

Postby Uromastyx » Tue Aug 16, 2011 12:21 am

Hi all.
I have a female yellow anaconda. She is 2.83m long.
Before i ask the question. I have done a search and i did check for mites temps and humidity as per wolf 777`s care sheet ( thanks man )
(viewtopic.php?f=44&t=22569 )

so my temps and humidity is spot on and there is no mites.
Now the question. My annie is just laying in her water bowl for the past week.
I have changed the humidity from 55% to 73% and she is still in the water bowl.
In the past she would be all over the cage. ( on the branch or under the basking spot but seldom in the water for more than a day.)

Any advice would be grate
Thanks

My annies spend a huge amount of time, the one will use the heatspot way more than the other one, even in colder temps I've witnessed them stay in water. If your cage conditions are correct then I wouldn't worry too much. Just keep an eye out on her health just in case.

I think the reason for them staying in the water longer might be due to a sudden temperature drop like during a power out, heat source failing or sudden cold swell etc. Water holds it's heat longer than air so that might be the reason, or it might just be shedding time soon. Is she feeding?

My big annie spends most of his time in the water. He will easily spend a week in the water :) I dont think it is anything to be too worried about :)

Well then everything seems fine, if she is feeding and shedding, and her general health is good then you are doing nothing wrong. When the water temp at the beach is perfect we as humans also want to stay and swim a bit longer, anacondas practically live in the water so a few days extra won't do any harm, chances are your water temp is just right as anacondas prefer warm water over cold water. Now how about posting a few photos to show her off?

Just clean her water regularly. Use water that has been standing for a day or two before filling her water bowl with it. Even the slightest filth and she will get sores. This despite the fact that live in filthy water where they come from.

Hi

The guys are correct.
Mine is over 2m, yellow anaconda and at some stage I also got very worried.
It gets very cold here in Wellington so what I do if she spend endless hours in the bathtub,I move the IR heat lamp just over her little swimming pool.
Am sure you don't need to worry.Mine at some stage spent 2.5 weeks in the tub.Last week just after spending a week in the water she shed.

They are tough little buggers and don't forget, anacondas are primarily fond of water.
Just for safety, just watch her as well.

Cheers and good luck.

Wolf i will post pics this weekend.

Bv I do do regular water changes and disinfect everything on Saturdays. That goes for the corns as well but thanks for the advice.

I must say you get used to her only been in the water for a day or 2 and when she stay in there "to long" you tend to forget that this is a water boa.

Thanks all for your replies and advice.

( So when will we see some green annies in SA)
