Where can I buy an egg eater :)

Where can I buy an egg eater :)

Postby *Mandy* » Fri Dec 09, 2011 2:59 pm

Hi All,

I very new to this site and I am on the lookout for an egg eater.
I live in the Helderberg - Western Cape but cannot find anything on the internet or gumtree.
Can anyone advise me on breeders that breed with this type of snake?
(My aunt has a couple of finches and quails so I will be fine to feed him).

The other question I have is that my first idea was to get a corn snake (reverse okeetee) as they are beautiful, but they get quite big and having a smaller snake would be nicer to 'manage'..right?.

Can anyone advise me of where I may buy a egg eater and also advise me if they are better to keep and easier than corn snakes?

Thank you.

From: A very excited *soon to own a snake* lady :)

Legally? No-where outside of KZN without a permit (will take some time).
If you want one you'll have to apply for a permit.
I don't think they're easier to keep than corn snakes, sometimes getting them to eat can be a hassle.
I'd advise you to try out the corn snake first, they are very available in many patterns (morphs) and are very hardy and most of all very inexpensive. ;)

Thanks... I didn't know that. My first choice was a corn snake so maybe that will be the best way to go - They are stunning :D

Hi Mandy

Welcome to the forum.
Another snake i can highly recommend for a beginner is a Brown House Snake.
They are available in the Western Cape, cheap and are a breeze to keep.

Thanks Nzyme, but I reckon I'm going to go with the Corn snake (okeetee or reverse okeetee), I love their colors. :)

I agree with the rest go for a corn or a brown house snake for your first, but if you still want your egg eater I will soon have some they are big and already feeding. I am in Oudtshoorn so they are already on our permit system you will just need a transport permit to get them from me to you. I have a friend that might also be able to help you out with a brown house snake if your interested.

:D ;) Just by the way, you need a permit to keep BHS outside KZN.
Good Luck

Mandy I saw some Okeetee corns at Creatures and Critters in Durban and they were the best quality I have seen. I am sure they will breed them this season. Really stunning ones are nicer than any of the morphs in my eyes.
